Building Community Without a Budget

Helping a sustainability-led craft brewery show up in the neighbourhood, armed with creativity instead of ad spend.

Building Community Without a Budget

Project Overview

During my internship at Local Brewing Co., I led vendor outreach for a Sunday Market series designed to bring together local makers and craft beer lovers, creating community buzz and mutual exposure.

Objective

To secure 4 to 5 local vendors within two weeks, without offering financial incentives.

Challenge

  • 01Extremely tight timeline (2 weeks, end of internship)
  • 02No budget or monetary incentives
  • 03Difficulty identifying the right small businesses through traditional search methods

Insight

Small businesses are more responsive to visibility and aligned values than financial incentives, when trust and exposure are clearly communicated.

Strategy

  • 01Analysed Melbourne's major weekend markets on Instagram
  • 02Identified and shortlisted vendors through tagged posts and reels
  • 03Shifted outreach from transactional pitching to value-led persuasion
  • 04Positioned participation as exposure via Local Brewing Co.'s marketing channels and on-site visibility (banners, shoutouts, brand presence)

Execution

  • 01Reached out to 30+ vendors
  • 02Tracked outreach, responses, and follow-ups in Excel
  • 03Maintained professional, personalised communication
  • 04Focused on building genuine partnerships rather than quick wins

Outcome

Secured 5 to 6 vendors within two weeks, exceeding the original target and delivering results ahead of any formal deadline.
